Seal of Approval Begins 2012 With New Products

Dalton GA - The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval (SOA) testing and certification program for carpet cleaning products and equipment has grown steadily in recent weeks, with the addition of 12 new vacuums, 9 solutions and 2 extractors to the SOA-approved lists, bringing the total of approval products and equipment to 828.

A Newcomer to SOA Solutions

In cleaning solutions, Zep Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia, achieved the Seal of Approval for its in-tank solution Zep Safe 2 Dose Carpet Extractor Cleaner.

Misco Products Corporation of Reading, Pennsylvania earned the Seal of Approval for the following products: Majestic Carpet Solutions Rinse and Neutralizer in-tank solution, Majestic Carpet Solutions Triple Action Multi-Enzyme Spotter and Deodorizer (Cherry Almond) pet stain and odor cleaner, the Majestic Carpet Solutions Triple Action Multi-Enzyme Spotter and Deodorizer pet stain and odor cleaner, and finally the Majestic Carpet Solutions Encapsulating Carpet Cleaner spot remover.

The Triple S Company of Billerica, Massachusetts earned the Seal of Approval for the following three products: Bio-Enzymatic Spotter pet stain and odor remover, N-CAPSUL-8 spot remover, and Carpet Rinse Plus in-tank solution.

Rochester Midland Corporation of Rochester, North Carolina earned the Seal of Approval for its Proxi® Spray and Walk Away spot remover.

Each of these products has passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change).

SOA Vacuums Enter 2012 on a Strong Note

In vacuums, Advance, Inc., of Plymouth, Michigan, earned approval for two new models; the Advance Spectrum 12H commercial upright and CarpeTriever wide area vacuum. Both achieved Bronze-Level certification.

Pacific Floor Care of Muskegon, Michigan adds its second machine to the Seal of Approval program with the Bronze-Level certification of its Alpha wide area commercial vacuum.

A new name joins the Seal of Approval program:Thoro-Matic of Muskegon, Michigan, achieved Bronze-Level approval for its T-M wide area commercial upright.

Joining the program at the Silver Level is the PF90 commercial upright from PowrFlite, a division of the Tacony Corporation of Fort Worth, Texas.

Panasonic Commercial Vacuum Cleaners of Secaucus, New Jersey earned Silver-Level approval for its Panasonic MC-V5210 commercial upright and Bronze-Level certification for the Panasonic MC-GG213, also a commercial upright.

The Hoover Company of Glenwillow, Ohio earned approval at the Silver Level for its CH50100 Professional Series Bagged Upright.

Oreck Manufacturing Company of Cookeville, Tennessee earned the Seal of Approval at the Silver Level for its U7030 Platinum household upright with the HEPA Odor Fighter Inner Bag. The company''s LW100 Magnesium household upright with the HEPA Oder Fighter Inner Bag entered the program at the Gold Level. Oreck also earned Silver-Level approval for its U4300 Graphite household upright with HEPA Inner Bag as well as its U7210 XL Edge household upright with HEPA Inner Bag.

To earn the CRI Seal of Approval/Green Label certification, vacuums must pass the following independent laboratory tests:

* Soil removal - CRI uses NASA-enhanced x-ray fluorescence technology to measure the precise amount of soil removed from carpet.

* Dust containment - The vacuum must release no more than 100 micrograms of dust particles per cubic meter of air, keeping dirt and dust locked in the vacuum - not escaping back into the air where it can be breathed.

* Carpet texture retention - The vacuum must not affect the texture of the carpet more than a one-step change based on one year of normal vacuum use.
Extractors Increase SOA Rolls

In deep cleaning extractors, Advance of Plymouth, Minnesota, has earned Bronze-Level approval for two of its portable models, the Advance ET600 - 100H and the Advance ET600 - 400H.

Clarke Manufacturers of Springdale, Arkansas earned approval for its portable units Bext Pro 100H and Bext Pro 400H; both at the Bronze-Level.

The Tennant Companyof Minneapolis, Minnesota earned Bronze-Level approval for its self-contained unit, Tennant EX-SC-1020.

In the Seal of Approval program, the deep cleaning system is the combination of a machine and a particular cleaning solution, following a set procedure. The cleaning solution is tested under the protocol for the solutions testing and then a set procedure is designated and followed. The product is then tested, like the extractors, for soil removal, water retention and texture retention.

Congratulations to all the new SOA participants!
