HOST Seminar to Show How to Double or Quadruple the Life Cycle of Floor Coverings
Presentation to offer new strategies for extending the life of carpet with a virtual tour of a Florida school district with carpet as old as 31 years
RACINE, Wis. – Racine Industries today announced it will hold a carpet care seminar on March 22 and March 23, 2011, in Dalton, Ga. The three-hour seminar will provide attendees with effective strategies and cleaning tactics for maintaining and cleaning carpet including details of STRATEGEM®, the new Sustainable Maintenance Management and Cleaning Strategy from Racine Industries. Attendees will also receive a virtual tour of a Florida school district that extended the life of its soft flooring surfaces, saving more than $1.06 million in costs each year.
“There has been a lot of misinformation about the best method for maintaining carpeted surfaces and the cost associated with it,” said Geoff Greeley, Vice President of Market Development and Support at Racine Industries. “The purpose of this seminar is to provide attendees with a key understanding of STRATEGEM and offer effective strategies for maintaining carpet in a way that helps prolong its life, reduce downtime and save a tremendous amount of money.”
The STRATEGEM approach employs an “outside in” technique to carpet maintenance. It has been developed as a result of extensive research on a custodial management model and cleaning strategy at one of the nation’s largest school districts. The district has been able to effectively keep carpeted and hybrid resilient flooring as old as 31-years looking good and seven-year old flooring looking new.
By analyzing the type of dirt within a facility and the method by which dirt is tracked, the STRATEGEM program provides users with an effective method for controlling soil and limiting its impact on carpeted surfaces. This includes:
1. Keeping exterior sidewalks and hard surfaces free of dirt and debris
2. Using track-off inserts or runners at all outside entrances and extractor-vacuum them daily requires use of a machine that simultaneously lifts pile and power vacuums, extracting dry dirt left behind by conventional commercial machines.
3. Extractor-vacuum track-off, funnel and main traffic areas two to three times per week regardless of whether soil is visible
4. Remove spots daily
5. Use a dry extraction carpet cleaning program to clean primary areas as needed and limit downtime
“Many manufacturers and carpet industry representatives suggest that the typical total carpet lifecycle in schools is eight to 10 years,” said Greeley. “By employing the STRATEGEM approach, carpets can be kept clean and maintained for double or triple that life. This not only saves money on replacement costs, but it also helps keep carpet out of the landfill.”
By using systems that extract carpet as they vacuum it, more facility maintenance professionals are realizing the benefits of using the STRATEGEM approach. It reduces complaints about moldy and unpleasant odors and limits substantial capital expenditures that can impact on other areas of cleanliness in a facility.
“An increasing number of facilities across the country are extending the life of their carpets with this system,” added Greeley. “Our goal with this seminar is to help the carpet industry understand that an effective maintenance program will extend the life of their product. This seminar will also lay out a program that will help many facilities achieve the same results and savings.”
