MOULTON — Theo’s Bar and Grill owner Jerome Theodorou said he will be closed two weeks to clean up after lightning caused what he estimates to be $54,000 in damage.

Theodorou was among the business owners still cleaning up Monday after straight-line winds from a macroburst storm Thursday night damaged businesses, homes and schools. A macroburst is an intense downdraft at least 2.5 miles in diameter.

“The lightning got one of our computers, our security system, the phone lines, several items in the kitchen,” Theodorou said about the restaurant on the courthouse square.

Elsewhere in the city, David Hood, mechanic at Outdoor Parts on Court Street, said he was concerned potential customers might think the business was closed.

“If nothing else, I said maybe you ought to put a big banner up that says, ‘We’re open,’ ” Hood said he told owner Scottie Terry.

The business’ glass front was blown out, but no products were damaged.

Hood said the glass was cleared away Friday, and the business is now open.

“We haven’t had as many walk-in customers,” he said. “On Saturday and Sunday, we have an average of 15 to 20 people just walk in. We’ve had three this (Monday) morning.”

Gail Bradford of Lawrence Funeral Home said she is dealing with damages “one day at a time.”

Winds between 80 and 100 mph left damage to the roof, dented hearses and caused water damage.

Roof repairs have been under way and will continue today, she said.

“People have been understanding,” Bradford said. “Of course we cleaned as much as we could, we just haven’t been really busy, so that was a blessing, too.”

Wood covered the windows of Zann Photography on Monday, but the business was open, owner Meleia Heflin said.

“There are three huge windows, and it took out two of them,” she said.

Heflin said portraits in the windows were damaged by glass.

“But I was lucky compared to some of the others,” she said.

Work on the roof of Johnson Cleaners in Moulton started Monday, building owner Mike Johnson said.

“It took almost all the roof off and blew out the windows and (caused) water damage on the inside” he said.

Despite the water that poured into the business during the macroburst, no clothing was damaged, Johnson said Go to http://www.advantagecleaningteam.com/  & http://www.janiservu.com/
