Thompson, 53, was on vacation with his wife, Ginny, when he was taken to the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where he later died.

Thompson joined the New England Institute of Restoration and Cleaning (NEIRC) in 1992. In 1998, he joined the board of directors, and in 2001-2003 served as the association president.

During his career, Thompson was a Connections representative for the NEIRC, including three years as Connections president; he served on the IICRC board of directors and was head of the cleaning division of the IICRC Certification Council. There were many other duties he engaged in, most of them in a volunteer capacity.

Thompson held 23 different certification credentials, all active and current, including three Master level designations in Textile Cleaning, Fire/Smoke Damage Restoration and Water Damage Restoration.

IICRC names new standards director

VANCOUVER, WA — The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) has announced that Mili Washington has been hired as the new IICRC standards director.

At the IICRC, Washington''s focus in the coming year will be to streamline the standards development process and strategy at the IICRC, work toward American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approval for new and revised ANSI/IICRC standards and use more digital tools to make virtual collaboration come to life.

"We welcome Washington to the IICRC," said IICRC President Patrick Winters. "Her strong background with ANSI accredited standards development will continue to help the IICRC reach its goal of being recognized as developing the most credible, collaborative and up-to-date standards of care for our allied industries," Winters added.
