Part two of this two-part article details the Annual Convention's keynote speakers. This year’s convention features two keynote speakers — Bill Rancic and Eric Chester. On Thursday, Oct. 22, Rancic, a successful entrepreneur, businessman, author and winner of NBC’s “The Apprentice” will speak to BSCs on “How to Succeed in Business and Life.”From starting a boat wash and wax business while in college to running a million dollar company and working for business mogul Donald Trump, Rancic will share the ups and downs on his road to success. BSCs will hear lessons Rancic has learned throughout his many business experiences, including how to separate their business from the pack, making each day count and separating expectations from business shortcomings. Opening the last day of the show, Saturday, Oct. 24, Chester, CSP, CPAE, an award-winning speaker, author and founder of the Center for Work Ethic Development, will present his keynote address, “Attracting, Developing and Retaining an ‘On Fire’ Workforce.”After years of interviewing C-level leaders across all industries, Chester has uncovered practices and principles that award-winning companies and great leaders are using to go beyond engaging today’s rapidly changing workforce.  Based upon his ground-breaking research in his fifth leadership book, “On Fire at Work: How Great Companies Ignite Passion in Their People Without Burning Them Out,” Chester will arm BSCs with ideas, tactics and strategies that top workplaces use to consistently attract and retain top talent, as well as how to encourage innovation and collaborative thinking.Bruland says Chester’s presentation will be one that will really hit home with BSCs. “Because we’re such a people-oriented business, Eric will help us motivate and engage our teams,” she says. “One of the biggest challenges in our industry is hiring, motivating and retaining top-quality people. He will have ideas to help us better engage our workforce.”The BSCAI Annual Convention is an event that should not be missed. This is a yearly opportunity for BSCs to focus on the strategy of taking their businesses to the next level. The event will help contractors gain knowledge on creating a more successful business, says Bruland. To gain the most from the Annual Convention, Bruland says BSCs should be open to new ideas and opportunities. “I would encourage people to stretch their comfort zones at the event,” she says. “Some of the most valuable takeaways are the connections and ideas that you’re able to share and learn from other BSCs. The opportunity to gain from other’s experiences will move your business forward and be extremely beneficial to all.” Before attending, think about what information could be shared with others, and what would be useful to learn. “At the convention, I like to share ideas that I’ve had the past year that could benefit others,” says Bruland. “I also like to talk about challenging situations and get input from other BSC that could be helpful for my company.” Nick Bragg is a freelance writer based in Milwaukee.
